MAGIC

MAGIC stands for Media and Graphics Interdisciplinary Centre at The University of British Columbia. The principal research areas in MAGIC are computer graphics and animation, human-computer interaction and multimedia. MAGIC and MERLin collaborate in the development of environments to "navigate" multimedia information.

MIT Media Lab

MIT's Media Laboratory, founded in 1985, carries on advanced research into a broad range of information technologies including digital television, holographic imaging, computer music, computer vision, electronic publishing, artificial intelligence, human/machine interface design, and education-related technologies. Ricki-Goldman Segall completed her PhD. with Seymor Papert at the Media Lab.

TDEB

The purpose of the Technology and Distance Education Branch of the Government of British Columbia is to support the goals of education by providing distance education and technology-based services and materials. This branch has provided support for our lab's partnership with the Bayside Middle School.

Bayside Middle School

The Bayside Middle School has been MERLin's primary research partner for the past four years. The students at this school participated in content development for the Global Forest and are subjects in Ricki Goldman-Segall's upcoming book.

ACTLab

The Adavanced Communications Technology Laboratory, based at the University of Texas at Austin and directed by Allucquere Rosanne (Sandy) Stone, focuses on the study of virtual systems, including topics of interfaces, interaction, and agency.

TL-RN

The Telelearning Research Network is a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to develop telelearning as an environment that will provide students with access to learning experiences not available or achievable in conventional classrooms.

Oracle Corporation

Specializing in databases, development tools, and client server solutions, Oracle Corporation is the world's largest independent provider of software and services for managing information. Oracle partially funded the developemnt of The Global Forest through its Education Challenge Grant.

Rogers

Roger's Communications is a national, multidimensional communications company specializing in Telecommunications and Multimedia. They are one of the sponsors of New Frontiers, a conference for the Canadian Association of Principals, where our director, Ricki Goldman-Segall, gave the keynote presentation in Vancouver.
