Constellations 2.6 Datasheet
Constellations is a functioning stand-alone prototype of database
system which enables a community of researchers to catalog, describe,
and meaningfully organize data they have collected and stored
in digital format.
In cataloging their data, researchers can:

Constellations 2.6 |
- Create database entries that can refer to data files in any
format or URL's obtained using Netscape.
- Display within Constellations QuickTime movies, text files
(less than 32k), PICT files, and System 7 sound files.
- Divide a QuickTime movie into several database entries by
specifying start and end points.
- Tag pieces data with topics and participants.
- Give a numerical rating to the tags assigned to a piece of
data.

A Star Entry |
- Create multimedia notes about entries in the database
- Search the database for entries based on their tags and ratings.
In analyzing their data collection, researcher can:
- Gather groups of pieces of data together into Constellations.
- Place constellations within other constellations.
- Assign a numerical rating to items within a constellation.
- Map items within constellations on a two-dimensional plane in Constellations Designer.
 Constellations Designer |
- View pieces of data next to each other in Constellations Designer.
In collaborative data analysis:
- Different researchers can enter pieces of data into a shared database.
- Researchers can tag all stars and constellations in the database with their own topics, participants, and related numerical ratings.
- Researchers can view a comparative chart of every researchers' tags for a particular star or constellation.
- Search the database based on other researcher's tags and ratings.
